Catterina - This large tortoiseshell cat was Edgar Allen Poe's pet, and the inspiration of his story "The Black Cat." When Poe's wife was dying of tuberculosis in the winter of 1846, the couple was destitute. A visitor found the stricken woman lying on a bed of straw wrapped in her husband's coat, and Catterina on her chest to keep her warm.
